Customer Reviews

The reviewers on this site were a great help to me in buying this TV, therefore I feel obligated to post a review for the future buyers.

I bought this TV on March 1, 2010 from Sears for 00. It was on sale for 99 but if you charge it to Sears card you get 10% off.

Brought it home by myself in a smaller SUV. TV is lighter for its size. My daughter and I brought it in. The box is little too wide because the base stand is attached to the TV which saves time. Unpacked very easily put it on the stand.

Connected to the basic analog cable that connects directly into TV(no cable box). I
connected the cable to my DVD and then connected DVD to TV with 15 year old basic audit/video cables, no HDMI or component video cables etc. Connected 2 DVDs and both are working fine.

Set up all digital HD and analog channels automatically as most TVs do now a days by clicking appropriate icons on the screen. Was watching TV in about 10 to 15 minutes. Of course I work in the computer field, so it may have been easy for me.

The picture may not be very sharp for analog broadcast. I turned sharpness all the way up, and it really looks very good. That is the only twicking I had to do.

As some of the reviewers said the picture is vivid in color and very much enjoyable. Some of the HD digital channels I get are realy very, very sharp. I am sure it will be much sharper with HDMI cables but I think you have to subscribe to it and then you have to put up with the cable box.

I am not into surround sound, gaming, connnection to PC etc. so I cannot comment on it. But if you want a 60 inch nice TV under 00 to watch TV shows, this is it. I have not seen any blurrs as some of you have said while watching sports.

Forget about spending more money for Sony, Samsung etc.

Eureka Titan and Eureka Timberline - Why You Want One of These Tents on Your Next Camping Trip

The most important factor in having an enjoyable camping trip is probably having a great quality tent. While there are so many tents each offering a different type of camping experience, you need to be confident that your tent is the right one for your family, that it is strong, and that it will keep you dry. Two very different types of tents, the Eureka Titan Luxury Family Tent and the Eureka Timberline Outfitter, each offer excellent quality to help make your camping experience a great one. But which is the right one for you?

While most people don't typically use the words "luxury" and "camping" at the same time, the Eureka Titan Luxury Family Tent is a tent that does actually make camping feel quite luxurious. If the idea of having lots of space as well as a number of special features and "extras" sounds like something for you, then you will want to consider this tent

At 128 square feet of space, the Eureka Titan Luxury Family Tent sleeps up to 8 people, and also offers several different storage and organizational features that any camper will appreciate. Inside the Titan you will find a corner "closet" where you can hang your clothes on hangers, clothesline rings, and mesh storage pockets on the ceiling panels. And you have the ability to subdivide the space to suite your needs with a removable divider. Lots of space to set up however you like is truly a luxury in the camping world.

Now the Eureka Timberline Outfitter is the complete opposite of the Titan. This little tent is meant to be simple and easy to set up, lightweight, and easy to take with you. In fact, it is just these features that have made the Timberline one of the most popular tents on the market for years.

You will find that the Eureka Timberline Outfitter is built to be a strong and tough tent, ready to withstand some really harsh weather conditions...yet you can set it up in a matter of minutes. Even better, it comes in several sizes, from the tiny 2 person tent to a 6 person version, so you can choose the right Timberline for you.

It is important to note that while both tents are quite different, they share some very important characteristics: they are able to handle all kinds of weather, are wind resistant, water resistant, and provide great ventilation. If you want a pleasant camping trip, you want a tent that can provide these things!

Whether you favor the small, easy to carry Eureka Timberline Outfitter, or the spacious and "luxurious" Eureka Titan Luxury Family Tent, you will find that either of these tents will provide the sturdiness, weather-proofing, and long-lasting quality that you need in the most important part of your camping gear.

Camping with your family can be a fun experience but not having the right equipment can make your trip miserable. Want to be certain that you have a wonderful camping vacation? Family Camping - Great Tents For a Great Camping Trip

Camping with your family is one of the best ways to share special experiences, enjoy nature at it's finest, and visit new and exciting places. In fact, many feel that camping is the ultimate American vacation. But to have a successful camping vacation, you need the right equipment for your family, and having the right tent may be the most important piece of equipment. Two great choices for family camping that you may want to consider are the Eureka Headquarters Tent and the Columbia Cougar Flats II.

There are not many things that can make a camping vacation more miserable than a pouring rain that ends up soaking everything in your tent....unless it is a hot summer evening that leaves everyone inside the tent sweltering because there is no ventilation. One of the benefits of the Eureka Headquarters Tent is that it handles both of these situations really well.

Two doors, each with their own windows, and two additional large windows create a great ventilation in this tent, so you will be comfortable if you enjoy summertime camping. Plus, you will stay dry if you have rainy weather, as the Eureka Headquarters Tent uses it's "Stormshield" to increase the tent's resistance to rain and durability, as well as a heavy-duty "bathtub floor" which repels water.

What if your needs include a large tent for camping with your family or group? You may find that the Columbia Cougar Flats II is the right choice for you.

If you have camped, especially with kids, you know that it can be an interesting challenge to fit everyone....and everyone's things....into a small tent. You have sleeping bags, air mattresses, clothing, supplies, and a host of other "necessities" that may leave little room for people. This exact situation is what makes the Columbia Cougar Flats II such a great family camping tent. While there are a number of very nice things about this tent, it's size is what makes to so perfect for family camping. The 10 ft. by 15 ft. size means that you have plenty of room to spread out. You can divide the space into two very nice sized "rooms" that are plenty big enough to have parents on one side and kids on the other, or have everyone on one side and use the other side as "living" space. Since this tent sleeps up to 8 people, it really is a great choice for anyone camping with a large group or family.

Camping is a wonderful way to create one-of-a-kind family experiences and truly special memories. Making sure that you have the right tent for your family is an important way to make sure that your camping trip is memorable in a good way. The Eureka Headquarters Tent and the Columbia Cougar Flats II both are great tents that are super choices for a great family camping experience.

Family camping can be a fun experience but not having the right equipment can ruin your trip. Want to be certain that you have a wonderful camping vacation? Learn more about the Eureka Headquarters Tent and the Columbia Cougar Flats II tent, read the product reviews from satisfied owners, and see if one is the right tent for your family.

The Samsung LN46B750 is one of the new Samsung High Definition Television Models which features the new Grey Touch of Color.  Samsung has put out the Red Touch of Colors recently as well, but the Grey option is one of the newer features that have helped make these Samsung models not only perform well, but look good as well.  The LN46B750 also features Auto Motion Plus 240Hz  and dynamic 150,000:1 contrast ratio which delivers action scenes that are smooth, crisp, and realistic even with high speed action movies and fast moving sporting events.  1080p is also a main feature of this Samsung HDTV which adds to the crispness and the clarity of this 46 inch Television which in my mind makes it well worth the money you would spend on this model.

The Samsung LN46B530 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV is a beautiful Television with a sleek, black bezel and new transparent bottom edge, that will make it a perfect addition to your entertainment space. With a 1080p resolution it also produces the highest quality picture on the market and blacks and shadows are strikingly superb. The 60,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.  This HDTV is also  Energy Star compliant which means you'll save lots of money  on your electric bill which is only a small reason you should purchase this top level High Definitiion Television.

Add a Keyless Remote to Automatic Locks

The convenience of carrying a keyless entry remote that can lock or unlock a car from a distance of 50 feet has been around for the past twenty plus years or so. If a car has automatic locks, meaning that the driver can unlock or lock all of the doors from a console on the driver door armrest, then a vehicle can be equipped with a remote key fob. Even if the car was originally sold without a keyless remote the manufacturer can match a signal to a replacement keyless entry fob that meets the make and model of the vehicle.

Many older model cars that are still on the road have the ability of driver side controlled automatic locks, but the vehicle has no remote either because it was lost or not turned in by the original owner of the vehicle when it was traded, or there was never a remote entry fob included in the sale of the car. Whatever the reason the current owner of the vehicle does not have to suffer without a remote key fob. For between $25 and $40 the vehicle owner can order a replacement keyless fob and have it programmed at the dealership to work with their car.

Because each make and model carries a different style of remote and works on a different signal frequency, it is important to get the right make, model, and sometimes year of the car that the replacement keyless entry is being ordered for. Even if the car never had a remote key fob, a replacement keyless entry fob can be ordered and programmed to unlock and lock vehicles that are equipped with automated locking systems.

Noztonoz Sof-Krate Indoor-Outdoor Pet Home - An Easy Way to Bring Your Best Friend on Vacation

Vacation season will soon be upon us, and if you are like many pet lovers, it can be a challenge to decide what to do with your dog while you are gone. You may want to actually bring Fido with you on vacation, but are wondering how to do so safely and comfortably. Do you have a crate? How will it fit in the van or car? And if you don't have a crate, where will your pet sleep so that he feels comfortable and happy while away from home? Many pet owners who have wrestled with just these questions love the Noztonoz Sof-Krate Indoor/Outdoor Pet Home: a soft-sided, easily transportable, yet sturdy pet crate that make it easy for your dog to travel with you.

We dog owners always hate to leave our pets behind when we travel, so it is a great option to not have to do that. But to bring our dog along, we want to know that he can travel comfortably, and more importantly, be content once we get there. So choosing a soft-crate that will make him comfortable, is sturdy, transportable, and easy to set up is important. No one wants to spend hours on vacation struggling with setting up a crate, or trying to figure out how to fold it up to get it in the van. And it is just these things that make the Noztonoz Sof-Krate Indoor/Outdoor Pet Home a great solution for the challenges of traveling with your dog.

Well-made, sturdy, attractive, and easy to use, this crate can be folded up and in your car in no time. And once you get to your destination, within a few minutes it can be ready to give your pet the comfort of his "home" no matter where he is.

Especially nice, is the fact that it is great for indoors or outdoors, so whether you are staying in a hotel, vacation home, or camping outside, your dog will be comfortable as well. I personally love the heavy-duty mesh fabric that it is both durable and washable. And the mesh panels, and entry doors on the top, front, and sides, provide great ventilation, and make it easy to access your pet. Plus, with a water-resistant base, it is very easy to clean as well.

It is important to choose the right size Noztonoz Sof-Krate Indoor/Outdoor Pet Home for your dog. You will find that the two smallest sizes, the 21" and 26" provide convenient carrying handles, while the 30", 36", and 42" will be suitable for dogs up to 70 lbs.

This is a great way to bring your pet on vacation. However, it is important to note that this should not be used to house train your new puppy, as the soft sides are not appropriate for the chewing challenges that a new puppy may provide. But for an already crate-trained dog, where ease of transportation, flexibility, and comfort are important, the Noztonoz Sof-Krate Indoor/Outdoor Pet Home will be a great choice for you!

Every dog lover wants to be able to have their pet with them while on vacation. Learn more about the Noztonoz Sof-Krate Indoor/Outdoor Pet Home, read the product reviews from other dog owners who love this crate, and see if this is the solution for you and your best friend.

How to Mount a Plasma LCD TV on the Wall

So your considering getting yourself a flat screen (or you already have) and now want to explore the benefits to mounting it to your wall. All the terminology and acronyms may be overwhelming at first but I will do my best to explain what you need to know. If you already own a flat screen you can skip over Step 1.

Step 1: Selecting your type of screen, LCD or Plasma.

It is safe to say your interested in a high definition television (HDTV). If your looking for a traditional cathode ray tube (CRT) television you must look elsewhere, they are a dying breed and will not be covered in this article. HDTV's come in variety of types, the major players being LCD's, plasmas, rear projections and front projections. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display, it is not important to understand what that is, just know it is the same technology that is behind the flat screen computer monitors you see everywhere. The focus of this article will be on LCD's and plasmas as they are considered flat panels and can be easily mounted to the wall through commonly available mounts.

Let me squash a common misconception right now. LCD technology has come a long way and now produces a picture that is very similar to plasma screens. For the purposes of mounting I will tell you a few of the differences between LCD and plasma. LCD televisions are almost always going to be lighter for their respective size than plasma screens. This makes mounting a little easier and less expensive, as you might not need a mount that is rated for higher weight capacities. You might not need to reinforce the mounts insertion point into your wall either. LCD's are also easier to transport in the event of a move, plasma screens are notorious for cracking/crushing under their own weight when not transported properly.

For those of you that are conscious of "going green" or saving money on your electrical bill, consider LCD's as they consume much less power per respective size than plasma screens. There are many other differences in specifications and performance between LCD and plasma but none that are applicable to mounting. The average consumer/enthusiast would not be able to tell the difference, personally I gravitate towards LCD screens. Hopefully now you have an idea of which television type you will be going with and can proceed to step two.

Step 2: Selecting your screen size.

One of the most commonly asked questions is what size TV to get. Selecting the proper TV size is very important and should not be overlooked. Whenever talking about the screen size remember televisions are measured diagonally (bottom left corner to upper right corner). This assumption should always be made when measuring unless specifically stated otherwise. The biggest thing to consider is how far the majority of viewers will be from the screen. Keep in mind that after mounting your television the majority of screens will sit about 3 inches off the wall. Measure how far your seating is from the wall you plan to mount your screen to. Add 3 inches to your estimate to take into account the mount which will sit between the wall and your screen. The general rule for HDTV's is the viewer wants to be approximately 1.5 - 3 times the distance in TV size (inches) from the screen. Translation: If your television is 36 the viewer should be sitting at a minimum of 54 inches from the screen and at a maximum of 108 inches. You do not want to be too close to a HDTV screen as they are designed to be viewed from certain distances. Sitting too close will make you question your HDTV picture quality and also lead to some serious eye strain. If you sit too far from your screen your eyes cannot appreciate the level of detail as they will not be able to resolve the full resolution of the screen. Sitting too far will also sacrifice the "immersion" feeling your HDTV screen is meant to provide. I highly suggest sitting somewhere in the middle of the recommended viewing range. This should be ample sizing information for any home video/audio enthusiast.

Step 3: How to select the proper TV mount? All things considered.

Selecting the proper TV mount is not difficult at all. There are a few different styles out there to choose from. The first type of mount I will discuss are the Low Profile TV Mounts, they are also referred to as flat mounts or flush mounts. These mounts have no range of motion and hold your television screen about 1 inch from the wall. These are perfect for people that are looking for a very low profile and sleek look for their HDTV screen. These mounts will keep your television flush to wall and minimize wasted space in tight areas or small rooms. It is important to note, with Low Profile TV Mounts, you will most likely need to remove the TV from the mount to attach/detach cables.

The next type of mount is the Tilt TV Mount. Tilt mounts do exactly what the name implies, they allow the screen to pitch downward for situations where you need the screen mounted higher than viewing level on the wall. Examples of when these mounts come in handy are retail stores, board rooms or bedrooms for when you want a nice viewing angle while lying down. Different models have varied ranges of motion, the average mount provides 15 to 20 degrees of tilt, usually more than enough to meet people's needs. Mounts with further tilt are available, just be sure to check the specifications before buying.

The third and final mount to be discussed is the Swivel TV Mount, also referred to as articulating mounts or cantilever mounts. Swivel mounts have the ability to extend the TV away from the wall and rotate the screen in either direction. The typical swivel mount can allow the TV to sit anywhere from 5 to 20 inches from wall and rotate approximately 60 degrees in either direction. Most swivel mounts also allow for around 15 - 20 degrees of tilt much like a Tilt Mount. I highly recommend Swivel Mounts for those who want the most flexibility and customization of optimal viewing angles. They are perfect for those who require maximum adjustability of their Flat Screen TV. Tilt and Swivel Mounts are also ideal for those constantly connecting different wires to the TV as they allow some work room behind the screen.

Now that you have a style of mount in mind you need to consider the size screen. When purchasing a mount you will notice they can accommodate a range of TV sizes. How is this so? Most mountable HDTV's conform to agreed specifications set by the Video Electronics Standards Association or more commonly known as VESA. VESA refers mostly to the hole mounting pattern on the TV and mount. Most mounts and TV's will conform to this standard but be sure to double check before purchasing. What if you already purchased a television that is not VESA compatible? No problem! There are many commercially available adapter plates which allow you to mount your television to VESA compatible mounts. What does this all mean you ask? Basically, TV's of many sizes will have the same hole configuration on the rear of the screen to make finding and installing a mount as painless as possible.

The weight of your TV is also important. The weight of your screen can most commonly be found in the instruction manual or on the box, sometimes it can also be found on the rear of the screen. If all else fails it should be listed on the manufacturers website. When browsing for mounts they will usually give you a maximum weight they can safely accommodate. Do not EVER exceed the maximum recommended weight! Worst case scenario your screen rips out of the wall and falls to the floor leaving you with a broken TV and holes in your wall. If your TV is within 20 pounds of the maximum weight I always recommend going with a beefier mount with a higher weight rating. The maximum weight guidelines do not take into account the weight of the wires plugged into the back of the TV screen. The weight or tension of the wires is not negligible! Most people have anywhere from 2 to 14 wires plugged into the back of your screen, this additional load adds up. Do not forget people may be tempted to touch or lean on the screen, you even exert force when tilting/swiveling it to a new position. If your within 20 pounds of the maximum weight consider getting the beefier mount, the extra few bucks spent here may save you hundreds in the long run.

Step 4: Installing the TV mount.

This article is only to be used as a general guide, always follow supplied instructions. When deciding how high to mount your TV, the best viewing angle is always straight on (eye level). If you were to draw a horizontal line across the middle of your TV (don't actually draw a line on your screen), this line should correspond to the eye level of your viewers. In the case of Tilt Mounts, you can mount the screen even higher and tilt the screen to compensate for the height. The first step should be to identify a section of wall suitable for the mount. I never recommend installing TV mounts into drywall alone, regardless of the weight! Drywall cannot support the weight of your screen and will easily break causing your set to fall to the floor. Your best bet is to identify a stud (wooden beam) behind the drywall that you can screw into. Mounts can also be installed into brick and concrete, these installs are rather simple as you do not need to worry about finding studs, the brick/concrete is sturdy enough on its own to hold the weight. Always make sure your mounting hardware penetrates into the stud. If your home/office makes use of metal framework instead of wooden studs, I recommend commonly available toggle bolts. They can be found at a local hardware store or online. Environmental factors should be considered as well. There has been a recent trend to hanging flatscreens above the fireplace. While this looks nice, the temperature fluctuations have shown to decrease TV performance and even to damage the screen. It can be done however, but first verify the wall/chimney above the fireplace does not have temperature fluctuations of more than 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Trace amounts of smoke can also lead to discoloration over time. The same thing goes for baseboard heat and radiators. Make sure the TV is far enough away that it is not subject to extreme temperature fluctuations.

The final step before drilling is to pencil the mounting holes on the wall. You want to make absolutely sure they are level. You can use a wall level or simply measure up from the floor and make sure the distances are equal. Take the time to do the measurements now, an un-level installation will result in a crooked TV, no good! This can be very difficult to correct and detrimental to your dry wall as you will have to re-screw. Just as dad always said, "measure twice, drill once." If you are not "hardware/construction" savvy or familiar with the construction of your home, you should consider investing in a stud finder. Most Stud finders will identify metal and wood beams you can anchor into, the one I featured will also indicate the presence of live electrical wiring. Never drill into a wall if you are unsure whether there is live electrical wiring or plumbing behind it! If you are unsure, confused or not very confident at this point I suggest you spend the money on a professional installation. They can be done rather cheaply and most companies do very good work. For inexperienced people, the cost of the drill, wall level and various other tools may be more expensive than a professional installation. If I convinced you on a professional installer I can recommend one of the best. ArmorMount provides an excellent on-site installation service. I have used them myself and have nothing but great things to say. Visit ArmorMount's website directly for information regarding ArmorMount's installation service, I provided a link below.

Step 5: Where can I buy a TV mount?

There a many websites to choose from. Having done a multitude of installations I can personally recommend one website that is truly great. ArmorMount.com offers all three mounts I spoke about earlier. They can supply mounts for almost every size, weight and brand of television. What I really like about this company is their Mount Finder utility. On the main screen of the website you simply enter your TV brand and the screen size, the website instantaneously displays the different style mounts you can choose from. They supply all the hardware (nuts and bolts) you will need for the installation. Their install kits come ready to accommodate drywall, brick and concrete installations. You also have the option of adding their professional installation service I mentioned earlier (highly recommended for the rookie handyman). I also find their pricing to be highly competitive, they consistently provide the lowest prices and sell quality products. They also advertise free shipping and a 6ft HDMI cable with every purchase. If you had the pleasure of shopping for HDMI cables recently you will agree they are very expensive and what I consider to be the most overpriced item of the home entertainment setup. HDMI cables are rather convenient however, they carry both HDTV video and digital sound up to 1080P. They potentially eliminate up to five separate cables (3 Component Video / 2 RCA Audio). ArmorMount also has friendly customer service representatives which I found to be very informative and quite pleasant.

I hope you found this guide informative. Remember to always consult a professional if you are unsure regarding an installation and always refer to your instructions/specifications for the final say.

HD Television - What Are the Technical Specs?

High Definition Television is commonly referred to as HD TV and it is the latest advancement in the television industry. For those of you not familiar with the technology, it is a digital television program broadcast in high definition that offers excellent quality. The sound is improved with Dolby Digital surround sound. While the market for TVs has been taken by stores with HD televisions the concept is not new. It was actually introduced by the Japanese in the 1970's.

The HD format is in demand by consumers because of the improved audio and visual qualities over standard TV sets. Many HD models feature digital advantage, tons of details, and progressive scanning options. While most TV sets only have a 4:3 aspect ration, HD television has 16:9 so you get a width of 33% more. This is what gives HD television the concept of a theatre picture screen.

The resolution of the HD format is up to 1,920 horizontal pixels and 1,080 vertical pixels, far higher than the resolution of standard TV. This is 10 times the details and sharpness as you get with a traditional TV set. There are three distinct broadcasting formats use in HD television. There is the 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. Each of these formats works well for HD scanning.

The audio of HD television is better than any other type of television. There are 5.1 channels of CD quality surround sound. Since the sounds are coming from different areas with different frequencies you can pick up on distinct sounds. These different frequencies are called ghost images.

Choosing a Shredder

Choosing the right shredder for your business or personal needs can be a daunting task. While some people might simply ask how many phone books can it gobble up, a more thoughtful approach would be how can I prevent my necktie or hair from getting stuck in it? Sure this may be fun in a Dilbert column, but in reality, getting nearly choked to death by a machine is certainly not the best way to start your day.

So what can a person do to prevent personnel, kids and pets from being endangered? When choosing a shredder, always look for a machine that has safety features built-in like the FEL3011001 by Fellowes Inc. which will automatically stop shredding when hands are too close and also not operate when the wastebasket is removed. Unplugging shredders when not in use and taking a minute to read the manufacturer's recommended safety precautions are also important points to keep in mind.

Also worthy of consideration is how does it shred? On the lower end, a strip cut shredder will shred paper in one direction. For added security, you may want to consider a cross cut shredder/confetti shredder which shreds documents two ways. In extremely tight security environments where it is either desired or required by law, a micro shredder will cut documents into minute pieces.

The terms "paper shredder is actually somewhat of a misnomer. Many shredders today can handle envelopes, card board, credit cards, staples, paper clips and other materials. If you find that you are constantly destroying CDs, a good bet would be a multimedia shredder. There are also combination units available on the market today that provide high performance, multi-functionality and safety features.

Other factors to keep in mind when choosing a shredder include:

Will it automatically stop shredding when jammed or the waste basket is full?

Does it have a reverse button?

Does it provide a window into the waste receptacle so you can see how full the basket is?

Will it automatically shut off if it starts to overheat?

Is the waste basket big enough for the amount of daily use it will receive?
Does it provide a reusable collecting bag?

Do you require an automatic sensor to activate the shredder when needed?

An ideal shredder should weigh the best balance of desired features with your budget. Sometimes the best choice is not a single unit but two or more lower cost models that perform specific tasks well. While a high end model may seem like a good selection initially in that it can do everything, what good does it do if it requires service? If John Doe loves shredding his boss's memos and the sound of a hungry machine eating old backup CDs, at least the security of the company will not be compromised when one machine goes down.

Moreover, other features like user-friendliness, warrantee and how quiet the unit is are all considerations that should be made when choosing a shredder. Although this is not an exhaustive list, hopefully it will help you make a more intelligent purchasing decision when choosing a shredder for your own personal or business needs.

Buying Your First LCD TV

What is an LCD TV?

Liquid crystal displays or LCD's are the new craze in television technology. They are light in weight and slime as your child's school note book. You can hang them like a picture frame or even place them on a stand. They produce crystal clear images and make even the most boring documentaries interesting to watch. Are you ready to get one? Before you go out and buy one. You should do your research this is not your parents CRT TV which works off of a light bulb there is lots of sophisticated technology involved in LCD TVs. So what do you need to know before you get one?

How does a LCD TV work?

Liquid crystal displays have been around for a long time your VCR clock, microwave display, the clock in your room and so on. The LCD has a great advantage it has low power consumption and can be made into almost any shape, hens the picture frame LCD TV. The LCD television display consists of two polarizing transparent panels and a liquid crystal solution sandwiched in between. The front layer of glass on the screen is etched on the inside surface in a pattern to form a template for the layer of liquid crystals. Liquid crystals are shaped like rods they bend light when electricity is applied to them this way light can not pass through them. Each crystal acts like a on off switch, either allowing light to pass through or blocking it, the pattern of transparent and dark formed from switching crystals forms the image you see.

What do I need to know before I buy a LCD TV?

Unlike the older tube TV's there are significant things which need to be taken into consideration when purchasing a LCD TV. LCD's involve computer technology and computer technology involves micro processors, software and etc.. These are things which can make your buying experience a head ace. I have gone through and simplified the buying experience; below is a list of things, you should know before making your purchase as well as suggestions. What is listed below is very important to know because if it looks good in the store might not look good in your living room.

First thing is first how much viewing room do you have in your house for the TV you want?

Recommended

20" - 27" TVs you need to be 2.5ft to 5ft from the screen.

32" - 37" TVs you need to be 6ft to 8ft from the screen.

42" - 46" TVs you need to be 10ft to 14ft from the screen.

50" - 60" TVs you need to be 12ft to 16ft from the screen.

Response/refresh time

This is the time that it takes each frame of image to refresh onto the screen. This is very important because if it is slow you will see a poor quality image depending on what you are watching. Make sure you get something in the 5ms or less range. Even though your movies and sports games might look great, your kid's video games might not. I would recommend getting the fastest response time you can find for a decent price.

Connections

Do not get duped by "computer ready" slogans, if you want a clear image from the computer you will be connecting to the TV make sure the connection is DVI, lots of TVs come with a computer connections (VGA) but not a DVI type connection.

Other basic connections: HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) similar to DVI, RF in, Component (Y/Pb/Pr), S-Video input, A/V input, USB 2.0, Premium Audio, Headphone jack.

Image clarity

Units Wide : Units High

Normally 16:9 is for HDTV, most shows are broadcasted in 4:3 ratio. Make sure you get 16:9 or you will be disappointed.

1080p, 1080i or 720p?

Let me just give you the answer HD movies are out and Blue ray are in, Blue ray operates at 1080p end of conversation. If you still insist on more depth read the next paragraph.

1080p means that the resolution of the picture is 1,920 vertical pixels by 1,080 horizontal pixels and the "p" stands for progressive scanning. Progressive scanning offers a smoother picture as horizontal lines are scanned or vertically scanned. This is Blu Ray and true HD quality.

1080i means that the resolution of the picture is 1920 vertical pixels by 1080 horizontal pixels interlaced. Interlaced refers to the scanning method where every odd line is scanned one followed by a second scan of even lines. This is not smooth as 1080p.

720p is the same concept as 1080p except the resolution is 1,280 vertical pixels by 720 horizontal pixels progressive. This is normal cable TV resolution.

Recommended LCD TVs

Don't get cheap the better brands names will give you better hardware. For example how many sheets of LCD material are used to make the TV differs by brands and price.

A Guide to Purchase a Digital Camera

Photographic camera became a desired consumer item since it became handheld many years ago. As it became digital with no need for film processing, digital camera became even more popular and it is now considered one of the most wanted optical/electronic consumer products.

However buying a digital camera may be a bit difficult due to the many brands and models being offered. After all there are so many features, one has to be sure of his needs in picking the right digital camera. The following tips might of some help:

1 - Price range: It is recommended that you establish a price range you are willing to pay for your new digital camera. Prices can start from bellow a hundred up to thousands of dollars.

2 - Features: Within the price range previously established, check the features available in digital cameras. Make sure it will meet your requirements for your personal or professional goals. You may find features such as zoom, automatic functions, special effects, black & white images, video recording capability and others.

3 - Battery life: Depending upon the places you go, charging the camera`s battery may not be possible. So make sure the battery life will last long enough during your outdoor activities. Also it may be a good idea to have some extra rechargeable batteries, so that that you won`t have to stop using the camera, while the original batteries are being charged.

4 - Memory Storage: Digital photographs are stored in the camera`s memory. Most cameras have built in memory, but it will accept memory card as well, to increase its storage capability. Depending upon the picture resolution, a user can take hundreds of shots, before it exceeds the memory storage.

5 - Image Resolution: Also known as pixel resolution, this is one of the most talked about features in digital cameras. Although 2.0 mega pixels will deliver good photos for any personal and emailing purposes, nowadays digital cameras with 8.0 and above mega pixels (million of pixels) have become a standard feature. The higher the mega pixel resolution, the better it will look the pictures in larger prints. For those thinking about image enlargement, high mega pixel resolution is a must.

6 - Lens: Beware that the zoom feature may be of two kinds: optical and digital. Optical zoom relies on the lens magnification and delivers a good, sharp and clear image. On the other hand, digital zoom is the magnifying of the digital image and produces a less sharp, grainy image. So make sure that the digital camera offers some optical zoom capability. Also look for lens auto focus and image stabilization features.

7 - LCD: LCD screen is a standard feature in every digital camera, and it works for framing the shot beforehand and viewing it afterwards. Look for LCD screen size 2 inches and above for better clear images.

8 - Online Stores: Whenever looking for the best deals in digital cameras, take a look at some trusted internet stores. Since prices are posted in web sites, people may find very easy to compare them, and get the best deals. Also take a look at some auction sites, for new and used digital cameras.

Digital camera has definitely become a very popular consumer product. The easy of taking shots and emailing to friends have really made this item an absolute must-have kind of product. I guess one could say that people found in digital cameras the perfect tool to preserve special moments by sharing digital photos with loved ones, around this ever growing wide world web.

Introduction to Home Theater Design

How many times have you walked through the electronics section of a department store or big box discount store to examine the home theater set-ups? When are you going to finally do it? Turn on the system, drop the DVD in and sit down for a comfortable experience of theater magic at home.   It will be great to turn a dream into reality but think about the basics and how you will approach the whole project before you start shopping.

It is impossible to successfully design a theater in your house unless you have a basic understanding of the various aspects of putting it together. You will need A/V receivers, speakers, big screen TV and HDTV displays, proper theater seating, and easy access to refreshments.

Educate yourself on basic technical knowledge so you will be able to navigate through the world of high-tech. Fortunately, the internet is your library for research and information. But rather than delve into putting it all together yourself, it is wise to consult with a professional A/V designer and installer, someone who can help design the schematics and wiring. This is imminently important to avoid costly mistakes.

It is important to understand the concepts surrounding a good home theater design whether you hire a professional or not. But if you can avoid spending thousands instead of hundreds of dollars, err on the side of a professional. There are plenty of resources for a home theater Bay Area and home theater San Francisco. Staying closer to home, look for professional advice for home theater San Jose. Regardless, arm yourself with information so you can make educated decisions.

5 Easy Ways To Choose The Best Compact Digital Camcorder

There are a number of compact digital camcorders out there. Digital camcorders make shooting video and editing it on your home computer a breeze. They are all good choices and all of them are a little different, offering different features and different recording media. Therefore, what should you look for in order to pick the best compact digital camcorder for you?

There are a few things that you can do to ensure that you are getting the best camcorder for you, one that will meet your needs and be a piece of equipment that you can use many years into the future.

5 Steps To Finding The Best Compact Digital Camcorder

1. Consider the amount of use that it is going to receive. This will help you to determine the types or brands that you will want to consider. The next thing is to consider what features you are going to want for your digital camcorder. For examples, do you want to be able to delete scenes right from the camcorder to see what you are recording in real time or to be able to play it back right away.

Power. Just about every camcorder comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion cell and a charger, and most are compatible with larger, higher-capacity cells, too. If you'll be using an external microphone, video light, or flash unit, look for a model that can power it via an accessory shoe.

2. Low-light options let you shoot in dim settings. Many cameras offer an infrared light or a long shutter mode to help you capture images in darkness.

3. The next thing is of course to look at reviews of compact digital camcorders. Most camcorders are going to have reviews available on the web, both by professional individuals and by users themselves, depending on the level of skill that you possess may determine which type of reviews you will want to look at. The majority of individuals however will find more use out of user reviews than professional reviews.

4. Try out the camera's controls before you buy. Sometimes the smallest camcorders can be difficult to use, especially if you have large hands. A larger model may work better for you if it's more comfortable to handle.

5. Once you have determined the features that you are looking for when considering the best compact Digital camcorder for you and you have determined which brands you want based on reviews. The next thing to consider is cost. Because there are a wide variety of features as well as brands that are also a wide variety of price ranges. Determining the price range that is right for you is essential in locating the best compact digital camcorder for you.

The Bottom Line: You should choose a digital camcorder based on the features and accessories you need, price and convenience.

Refurbished iPods - Why Buy A Refurbished iPod Anyway?

"Absolutely brilliant", declared one of my friends, when questioned about her latest acquisition, a refurbished iPod. Her succinct statement kind of sealed the fate of a tenuous yet extremely debatable contention- why buy a refurbished iPod anyway? Regardless of the public opinion, there are no multiple perceptions about the fact that an iPod does wonders to your social standing. After all, it's no small time Mp3 player that we're referring to here, which would disappear off our radar soon. LCD Flat Screen TV - The Case For Choosing an LCD Flat Screen TV Over Plasma

Many people are looking to replace their current tv with a slim and elegant flat screen tv. The first question many will ask is which is better, an LCD flat screen tv or a plasma tv?

This is a bit like asking which is the better car to buy Honda or Toyota? Some will insist Honda, some will insist Toyota without question. Some will say neither and that you should only buy an American car. Before answering which car is better you need to know which models you are comparing, what needs you have regarding size and style and what price ranges you are looking at so you are truly comparing apples to apples.

Choosing a flat screen tv is no different. Before answering which is better you will need to know what size you are looking for, what your viewing environment is like, what your viewing habits are like, what price range you will be looking at and what special features you would like.

The good news is you can find some great LCD flat screen tvs and plasma tvs at prices that are becoming more and more reasonable, allowing you to enjoy high definition tv and sports as well as movies on your slim, digital tv.

In years past the decision between LCD and Plasma was a pretty easy one as the smallest plasma was in the upper 30" range and the largest LCD was in the lower 30" range so if you wanted a large home theater tv you would choose plasma and if you wanted a small, flat panel tv you would get an LCD. LCD has made great strides in the past year to bring high quality, affordable flat panels to the market at competitive prices.

Flat panel tvs have a lot of uses and benefits. If you are looking at a tv for the kitchen or a small tv for a bedroom, the decision to buy an LCD is really a no brainer as LCDs dominate the market for flat panels under 37".

Another benefit of LCD flat panel tvs is the brightness of the display. If you will be viewing your tv in areas with bright lights and a lot of ambient light from outside, then it is a good idea to choose an LCD flat panel tv as LCDs will be easier to see then a typical plasma tv.

Another important consideration is what you intend to view on the tv. An LCD flat panel tv will typically have a higher native resolution then a comparable plasma tv making it a natural choice if you intend to use the tv for computer use or gaming use.

If you are looking to get the full 1080p HD display for your video games or for HD movie formats such as HD DVD and Blu ray then you will have more LCD flat panel tv choices then you will plasma.

In the past burn in was a concern for plasmas in scenes where static images such as video game scores or stock market ticker tape banners would remain on the screen for long periods of time. Technological advancements in plasmas have greatly minimized the risk of plasma burn in, but still if you are looking to be free from burn in worry then the choice of LCD is a natural one.

Another advantage of LCD is that the weight is lighter and it will generally consume less power then that of a comparable plasma tv.

Early versions of plasma held advantages over LCD in terms of deeper blacks, better response times and a richness in color. LCD flat panel tv has closed the gap significantly in the past year in terms of picture quality, with some models even offering 120Hz technology and LED backlighting for incredible contrast ratios and a crisp, vivid picture.

While both LCD and plasma can offer a crisp, clear picture in a slim flat panel tv, an LCD flat panel tv seems to be a natural choice for those looking to maximize their resolutions for video gaming, for those viewing the tv in bright rooms, for those looking for smaller secondary tvs, as well as those looking to minimize power consumption requirements.

Television Technologies - Competitors for the Future

CRT or tube television suited the needs of viewers for several decades. Plasma and LCD came along in more recent years competing for the affections of television buyers. These newer entrants on the market offer a slim design and the ability to enjoy a theater like experience with enormous screens that don't require an entire room for set up.

For the millions of consumers still holding out on purchasing a new plasma or LCD television despite their falling prices over the past couple of years, there will of course be other technologies evolve in the not so distant future to further complicate the decision when selecting a new set. Becoming acquainted with at least the names of a few of the technologies on the horizon may help prepare buyers for what is sure to follow in a crowded marketplace.

OLED

OLED is the acronym for organic light-emitting diode. The technology was originally developed years ago by Eastman Kodak and is used for both light sources and television. Sony is one of several companies hoping to bring this technology to market. Images are produced via the electro-phosphorescent properties of certain organic materials. No back light is required in an OLED television. In addition to television, OLED may be used on small screens such as on cell phones, MP3 players, and digital cameras.

An OLED television (active matrix) will use less power than the average LCD television. They offer a superior range of color and brightness as well as a wider viewing angle. These televisions are lighter weight, thinner, and yet more durable. The most significant drawback to an OLED television in this early phase is their lifetime. The longevity of some of the LEDs (the blue component) is only 3,000 to 5,000 hours at this time. Once manufacturing technology advances are made, it is anticipated that OLED televisions will have a much more competitive lifespan.

SED

SED is a surface conduction electron-emitter display, a technology reportedly being pursued primarily by Toshiba and Canon. SED uses an electron emitter for each subpixel to light up the phosphors in the display and operates similarly to a CRT display. Unlike a CRT television however, SED provides a much thinner and flatter screen.

An SED television is said to have a long working life, with only a 10% reduction in emitters after 60,000 hours. They use significantly less power than traditional LCD and plasma screens and possess excellent contrast ratio and brightness. Unlike LCD, an SED television does not experience lag (blurring during fast action scenes) and provides a 180 degree viewing angle. Like early plasma sets however, an SED television may be at risk for burn in.

Laser based Television

Mitsubishi may be unveiling its new laser based HDTV models by the end of the year.

The television is a slimmed down rear projection model that will reportedly rival the space saving design of plasma and LCD screens. Said to be only 10” deep they should not be too imposing in any room. It is also anticipated that they will be lighter in weight, due in part to their lightweight plastic screen versus traditional glass.

According to the manufacturer, other attractive features include improvements in picture quality. These sets are said to offer better color content and blacker blacks than current technologies. In addition, this new laser based television reportedly consumes significantly less power and is expected to be priced well below that of similarly sized plasma or LCD screens.

FED

Another potential leader for the future is FED (field emission display). Sony is currently behind the FED push.

FED television is said to operate more like a CRT set but offers the flatter, thinner display like LCD and plasma. They use a more efficient emitter (carbon nanotubes) and can therefore create a higher resolution picture than an LCD, use significantly less power than a plasma, and display fast motion without blurring.

The good news of course is that the evolution of television technologies should present some options that offer outstanding viewing and yet are affordable for the average consumer. Only time will tell which technologies will actually reach the market and whether or not actual performance will match current expectations.

Sony KDL46Z5500 - A Review

Sony has always been a big name in electronics and it continues to be one of the leaders when it comes to quality televisions. If you are looking for a very high end and beautifully styled television, you might want to stop right here with the Sony KDL46Z5500 model. In beauty, Sony has out done itself with this particular model. This one piece of entertainment equipment will turn any boring and simple room into a room all your neighbors will more than likely envy.

This model has a special feature called DLNA Home Networking Technology which is a wonderful feature that makes it extremely easy to view your videos, pictures and even music right off of your computer onto the television screen.

With its USB Media Player you can easily connect a variety of different electronic devices to the Sony KDL46Z5500 television by simply plugging it in and you are ready to go. Ready to play games, listen to music, watch videos, whatever it is that you have connected to the television works like a dream.

The new 200MHz MotionFlow included with the TV is a vast improvement of the 100MHz that was in their previous models. This increases the quality of the motion on the television and increases the once 50 frames per second to 200 frames per second. With that much of an increase you can imagine the impact it has had on the quality of the picture. It is not capable of predicting any type of motion with extreme accuracy.

With the Sony KDL46Z5500 you are able to view movies exactly the same as if you were in the theatre with its 24P True Cinema feature. Most movies are made at 24 frames per second, you can enjoy the exact same thing on your own large screen television as you would in the movie theatre. And to make your viewing even better, the resolution is wonderful at 1920 x 1080.

A wonderful thing about this particular model is that it is extremely Eco friendly. It actually offers you Eco friendly settings. Most televisions continue to use energy even after they have been turned off, but: the TV has a variety of settings to choose from to help save energy like Power Saving option, Idle TV option, Standby, PC Power Management a light sensor and energy saving button. All of which make this a very good fit for all those trying to do their part for the environment.

The picture quality is extremely high with clear and vibrant colors and its black levels are near perfect for a television of its kind. Being an LCD, black levels have always been an issue, but with the Sony KDL46Z5500, they have nearly gotten this problem completely fixed.

Sony has always been known for its wonderful sound systems and they make sure that this Sony KDL46Z5500 television is equipped with some of their top notch sound especially when using down firing speakers, the sound is well rounded and pleasing to listen to. It should not be disappointing for most.

Decorative Floors: Transform Your Space from the Bottom Up

Decorative floor accents will provide any home with that extra something special that is so reflective of individual style. Plain floors have many makeover options today—and many are not only beautiful, but cost-effective as well. The following article offers ideas and methods to create flooring that will enhance your entire décor and give your home an original stamp of beauty.

Adding floor accents will not only transform a plain floor, but they may even screen or camouflage damaged areas of your floor. While carpeting and decorative rugs are always an option, the subsequent ideas here are specific to your actual floor. No matter what kind of floor you have from wood to cement, there are many design possibilities to give your floor an overhaul in appearance. From designs that incorporate the entire floor to small accents that border your floor, there are many possibilities to consider.

If you were not able to install the expensive parquet floor you had your heart set on at the time you opted for a plain wood floor—you have the creative option of stenciling a faux parquet floor that is not only inexpensive, but utterly realistic and charming. Using various shades of stain a simple design of diamonds and squares would work best on a newly sanded raw wood floor, but it may be beautifully employed on a stained wood floor. Rather than stenciling with paint, you stencil with waterbased stains and may finish however you choose. This design makes a great border for any room, but especially in a formal living or dining room.

This same type of stenciling also works well to create an interesting center point for your flooring or to enhance a special table. Variations on the design could include checkerboard, leaf or floral patterns. Paint may be employed to great effect but it will not provide the look of a parquet floor. Many crafters prefer stamps and these could be used in place of stencils for a similar look.

If you like the look of paint, there are many ways to use it on your floor from single colors that cover the entire floor to patterns that border the floor to designs that are randomly interspersed. Consider a garland motif that rings your living room floor like a wreath or a fun colorful floor of stripes for a children’s playroom. You may even opt for a painted floor to resemble a tiled floor—black and white squares throughout the kitchen perhaps. Of course, paint is also great for a staircase and designs that are very formal to country rustic abound.

Stencils also work great for outdoor flooring like patios and decks. A wood burning tool and some outdoor paint will work magic to spice up your wood flooring. Consider wood burned leaves strewn about your deck and painted with an iridescent green paint. Also, a lilac border is simple to create and will give your flooring a bit of lovely lavender color to perhaps match your deck furniture cushions.

If you are afraid to transform your floor permanently, consider buying flooring remnants or rolls of vinyl to decorate and lay on top of a section of your existing flooring where it can be appreciated as a focal point. Can’t afford an Oriental rug? Try painting or employing decoupage to a piece of vinyl for the look without the high price. Of course, the value is simply a bonus; these methods are lovely in and of themselves and consulting with a professional artist in your area may even prompt you to design an elaborate floor mural.

To find patterns that you like, scour art books as well as carpet and flooring centers. Often you may find something there you can easily reproduce on your own.

Necessary Qualities of Outdoor Speakers

The great outdoors presents a different listening environment than the indoors. Outdoors, of course, is wide open, and there is usually much more background noise. The difficult sonic conditions of the outdoors can make music sound thin and diluted. To keep a warm, full-bodied sound, one should choose outdoor speakers with good low-frequency response that produce enough bass for a satisfying listening experience.

It is also very important to consider the durability of a pair of outdoor speakers. All of the outdoor speakers we carry are weather resistant, and some are rigorously tested under extremely difficult environmental conditions. Most manufacturers recommend placing or mounting them in a protected location under cover for best results and a longer life. Beneath a porch roof or an eave they work well.

Factors to look for when placing outdoor speakers

There are a couple of different ways in which one can place outdoor speakers. Some would like to have a system which will enable them to share the speaker both inside and outside. Most amplifiers have A and B speaker outputs for exactly this purpose.

Another factor to consider when planning an integrated outdoor system is the distance of running speaker cable. The best option is always to use wireless speakers while placing it outdoors. Placing the outdoor speakers near a wall or other solid surface improves bass output. The higher the speakers are mounted, the greater the distance the sound will carry. If it is necessary to mount one or both speakers in an exposed location one should choose speakers that are rated for extreme conditions.

When shopping for outdoor speakers one must look for those models and brands that have been tested and warranted for outdoor use and are made for extreme conditions. Various models of outdoor speakers are available in the market. Mainly five types of outdoor speakers are available: regular looking weatherproof speakers, cylinder-shaped, rock-shaped, and flowerpot-shaped are commonly used. Garden shapes like rocks and frogs are also available, and there are also wireless speakers.

The most popular brand name for speakers is BOSE. The Free Space 151 Environmental speakers deliver 360-degree sound coverage, on or in ground installation, and will stand up to snow, sun, rain, ice and saltwater spray. The 251 Environmental is a wall-mounted speaker with a multi-chambered enclosure for improved bass response. The wall-mounted 151 SE sends sound over a wide listening area. The 131 is a flush mount outdoor speaker model specifically intended for marine use.

Some brands make outdoor speakers in the shapes of garden decor. Camouflage speakers are supposed to blend visually and aurally into an outdoor setting. Most have one speaker, instead of the woofer and tweeter combo found in typical rectangular enclosures. Speaker Craft outdoor Rox look like real rocks, and lack any noticeable grill holes. They are available in pairs, and also in larger single models.
